Upcoming LG Flagship to Feature Unique Display & Better Camera Tech

LG might be thinking of doing away with the G-Series, and will not be unveiling its upcoming flagship at the MWC. Called “Judy” the new smartphone will be revealed in June.

The famed smartphone rumor guru Evan Blass is back, this time to spill the beans on the upcoming LG flagship, the G7. The phone will be available in June and will not be a part of the G-series brand this time around (it is codenamed Judy for now).

The smartphone is said to come with a design overhaul (“Industrial design” according to VentureBeat) compared to the G6, though details are low on that front. It is expected to come with IP 68 water and dust resistance as well as shock-proofing.
The display consists of a 6.1 inch, 18:9, MLCD+ panel, rather than the underwhelming OLED we saw in the Pixel 2 XL. The MLCD+ screen will allegedly go up to around 800-nits of brightness and 35% increase in efficiency.
Under the hood, the new flagship will come with the Snapdragon 845 chip, Qualcomm’s latest and greatest (unlike the G6 which featured an older processor when it came out), as well as 4 GB RAM (no mention of a 6 GB version) and 64 GB of storage.
At the back would sit a dual-camera setup of 16 MP sensors with f/1.6 aperture. There will also be support for HDR10, as well as several AI-related features.
The audio needs will be handled by “boombox” stereo speakers, however, we don’t know if the headphone jack will be retained. Battery capacity is also not known, however, wireless and fast-charging will almost certainly be there as well as a digital assistant.
Unlike previous years’ models the phone won’t be launched at the MWC, however, the Korean company would likely take that if that means changing its fortunes for once. LG’s mobile division is still its only one which is losing money, and it is clear that some major overhaul is needed.
